House Hunting

Source: legobrickmaster

I've still got friends in Okinawa, and I recently have been communicating with one on ideas of fun outdoorsey things to do for her and her husbands anniversary. It made me quite homesick. We still want to go back so i sometimes find myself thinking of where I would live.  I even go as far as to look at houses for rent online.

This is the first one I found today, and I totally love it. I love the big yard and the covered porch. I always wanted a covered porch while we were there because it rains often, like really often. And Paul and I like to BBQ, like really often. So a covered porch would make that possible in a downpour.

I can see it now, our grill in the corner, with lots of potted plants all around. maybe a little house for the dogs.

This front area is beautiful too. More plants and flowers outside the sliding doors.

I love the tatimi room. I love the wood carvings. That room will be gated off so the dogs can't tear up the tatimi mats. This would be mama's yoga zone. or maybe a play area for a child.

The kitchen looks pretty open, i like that it has a japanese fridge. We'd probally have to buy or build some sort of island in the middle for more counter space. But who cooks in Japan anyway? I'd be eating soba and sushi every meal!

This is beautiful, but could be misleading. The tub looks deep, so it could be big. But we had some friends who lived in a Japanese style house and their tub, while deep, was only about 3 feet long. But in my imagination this tub is a full size.

I can't tell if this is a second tatimi room or just another angled picture of the first one. Either way, i love it. (i think it's a second though)

The only downside I see (besides that when we go back in 2 years none of the houses I am looking at today will be available) is that the kitchen looks like it has a japanese oven, which means it's the size of a toaster oven, so no thanksgiving turkey, roasted chicken, even baking can be hard. But you know what? we all have to make sacrifices to have what we want.

Someday we'll be back. I cannot wait.

Weekly meal plans

yeah this is just a link dump, and some are from the last link dump. But this is what I am planning on cooking this week:

Wednesday -  veggie laksa

(this one is only if I can find all the ingredients, I really hope I can) if not I'll make something from the freezer, like frozen lasagna or some shit.

and sometime this week I am going to try to make a banana bread, i've been craving that shit like woah.
If i do this one i'll add some extra spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, and probally an extra banana or two because I like a heavy banana bread.

Bee Positive

Everyone loves positive feedback. It makes employees work harder and people feel better about themselves when they are told they are doing a good job. The last few days I have been getting loads of positive feedback from my immediate supervisor and it feels great. It's great to be told that you are doing a fantastic job at what you are doing, even if what I do is really so mindless a child could do it (just not as good as me).
I work in retail, and I typically stock movies on shelves. yeah not so hard. But apparently I excel at knowing my alphabet and doing things in a speedy manner.
It's also great when customers thank me, or compliment me. Another thing I think that makes a person feel good about themselves is compliments from strangers (as long as you aren't a creeper).
I think i've always been a kind person, and I've always tried to compliment strangers. "I love your shoes" or "your hair is super cute!" I hope that when I give out simple compliments that they make a person feel as special as I do when I receive them.

So this week be nice to a stranger, especially someone in customer service, or retail. Chances are you'll make their day, or at least make them smile. And this world can never have enough smiles.

Five Q Friday

hooked up through this hooker:

check her ass out, she's pretty fucking awesome.

1. Did you make any fun purchases this week?

lolz. i was on a total shopping spree in Tucson monday. well sort of, cause i am a cheep bitch so I only buy shit on super sale or on clearance. but i bought a shit ton of clothes and some jewelry.

2. If you could go to any musical concert, what would it be?

Gaga.

3. What is your least fav/ most fav house chore?

i hate cleaning, that's why i don't EVER have people over at my house, because 99% of the time it's totally unacceptable for habitation.

4. Would you prefer new appliances or clothes?

i have plenty of clothes. and most of my appliances are new or new-ish, though a new fridge and deep freezer would be nice. I could go for new shoes though.

5. Miracle Whip or Mayo?

Fuck Miracle Whip. that shit is gross. Mayo all the way.

One thing I learned this weekend.

No matter how long you are apart it's easy to pick up right where you left off.

Love you Nikki.

That's just how things go when you move around all the time though. You make friends then you move, make more friends then you move. Sometimes you come full-circle and you are back with old friends again and things just fall back into place.

I need to find some old pictures of us and scan them in. I am sad I didn't get any of us this weekend. I fail.

VACATION!

Tucson Sunset

I am back from my mini-vacation. I went home to my parents house in Tucson, to help my sister and mom with some final wedding plans. And to have a little bridal shower.
Oh and to eat burritos. lots of burritos.
super nachos!

carne-asada enchilada style!

I had a great weekend starting with super nachos and a burrito, then the next morning another burrito.
That evening I had my sisters bridal shower which was at a local brewery and was a freggin blast!
 Me!

My pretty little sister Andrea

Afterwards we did a little bar hopping, I haven't really bar-hopped in Tucson in.... i dunno... 5 years. A lot has changed. When I was going out it was a very punk rock/gothic scene, that night it was a hipster/jersey shore scene. strange. But it was fun. My sister has some cool friends .

The next day I had an awesome hangover, once I overcame that I had eegees and a nap, then dinner with grandma. That night I got to see one of my besties a couple of the cutest guys in Tucson.
(this little guy has a blanket that he was supposed to get when he was born but it still isn't finished... maybe by Christmas.)

The last day of my vacation was filled with running wedding errands with my sister, meeting DJ's
it was hot! 103!
and eating an amazing sammich at Beyond Bread ( <3 Betty's Brie )then an amazing REAL Mexican dinner, yum chili relleno and enchilada!
Then Tuesday I was gone. and then home again.
moms house is down there somewhere

Catalina Mountains, Tucson, Az.

Today starts day one of being back on a diet. I am afraid to step on the scale. Really though as long as it's under 160 I won't cry. But I am guessing it's close. So I am avoiding the scale until Saturday (my normal weigh in day) and until then (and for the foreseeable future) I am back to 100% weight watchers and working out every day. At least by maybe i can drop some water weight from all the salty margaritas.

My week in photos.

I got a little bit of grass to grow in the back yard:

we had a really cool T-storm blow in:

During that storm lightening struck the mountain behind our house, and started a little, short lived fire:

The tomato plant I started growing in MAY! finally has some tomatoes on it, just in time for it to freeze next month...

I broke my sunglasses :(

I found the coolest spider living in my backyard:

Spider

I climbed through a barbed wire fence to get this picture:

Hay balls

And I started packing for my little trip home this weekend:

Taco

(no Taco is not coming with me, but he wants to)

And I did my hair for my vacation!

Food Blog Link Dump.

I am still working on clearing out my Google Reader and these are some of the things that popped up under my food blogs I am looking forward to making.

This last one is even a bit of a surprise to me because I don't like BBQ sauce, but this sounds really good.
